Creating Color Focused Memory Keeping Pages (+video tutorial)

Hello there!

Nathalie with you today to share an idea on creating color focused memory keeping pages.  I am using the new Altenew Craft Your Life Project Kit: Garden Rose to create this page.   I love the delicate images of this set,  plus the coordinating stencils are  a great way to add interest to your projects.   This set will help me create a page that has an specific color palette that will marry the photo the overall look of the layout.

A color focused layout features the main colors of the photos as the main focus of the page.  This creates a cohesive look for  the page that makes both picture and background pop together off the page.  The key is to recognize the colors of the photo that are subtle but are key in the image.

Choosing a color palette

The main colors in the photos are blue, pink, soft coral, and lilac.  These are the colors in the clothing of the girls, the subject of the photo.  These colors, in various shades, will drive the image forward.    In this case, the flowers  feature the colors of the masks, thus  tying them to the picture.

Chose a base color

The soft purple pink of the paper ( Wildflower Paper Crafting Collection 12x12 Paper pack) serves as a soft non-white background for the page.   The color background make the soft tones in the flowers, leaves, and corner details more prominent.

Soften intense colors

The soft grid design of the corner elements in the notebook feature a softer tone of the color than the one the girl is wearing in the photo ( Icy Blue Crisp Dye Ink).  The grid design ( Craft Your Life Project Kit: Garden Rose  stencil) mixes the softer tone of blue with white; this helps to bring the color of the sweater to the background without overtaking the page.

Add a bit of contrast

I am using soft shades of teal ( Sea Shore Crisp Dye Ink Mini Cube Set) as a means to contrast the pink and blue of the page.  The soft ombre effect of the leaves breaks monotony of color and shape of the flowers.  I am even adding a small pop of textured color ( Glitter Gradient Cardstock - Ocean Reflection)   in the title work ( All About You Words Die Set).
