Sketchy Floral Layout
Hello, Altenew fans. Enza here to share a new layout created with several Altenew products.
When I started thinking about the design and what I wanted to focus on for this page, I decided once again to get out of my comfort zone and challenge myself. I have been experimenting with mixed media lately, but that mostly consisted in spraying my backgrounds with Altenew Shimmer Ink Sprays – I like their soft color and artistic look. This time, I went a step further and used a mix of different mediums to color the gorgeous flowers in the Sketchy Floral Stamp Set.
I don't have much of a tutorial, or a reference to the colors I used, as I just mixed and matched until I got the result I was going for. What I can say is that the combination of Altenew Watercolors, Artist Markers, and colored pencils made these images pop.
Here is my process!
I started by stamping the big Sketchy Floral image onto smooth white cardstock with Permanent Black Ink. I then used orange, red and yellow hues from the Watercolor 36 Pan Set to give it the basic color. I went back and forth, trying to create different shades. I did the same with the greens for the leaves. Once everything was completely dry, I added even more shading with the Artist Markers, which really helped in achieving a smoother look. Next, I just slightly darkened some areas with colored pencils until I was happy with the results.
Not all the images were colored the same way; to create variety, I decided to just spray some of them with Frosty Pink and Warm Sunshine Ink Sprays. I love the softness they add to the big cluster.
Before arranging the flowers onto the page, I adhered strips of patterned paper from the Reflection Scrapbook Collection onto the background to bring in a contrasting color.
Instead of adding a big title, I opted to use sentiments from the More Than Words Stamp Set; I simply heat-embossed them directly on the patterned paper with Pure White Embossing Powder.
Splatters of Jet Black Ink Spray finished the layout.
